Klanghaus event, Forever Seminar was a hit. The art collective I’m in, Klanghaus, had a retreat to Detroit (that I couldn’t attend due to financial reasons), created a show collectively and polished it up for a reprise in Oakland at Teddy’s house.

I enjoyed collaborating with Ben Unger on a rave room using blacklight! I also installed some fiber optic barettes that seemed to play well on the Robocop inspiration. It was a collaborative effort with Teddy Hulsker, host and director.

I want to seize more installation art opportunities. I am curious about that feeling of immersion, which is why I like theatre so much. It’s all around you and it’s not normal.

I also took a lot of pride in making this “ONLY ZUG” banner. I was grateful for being able to have some say in what it said– some of the slogans were very long and wouldn’t have the same impact.

  • Burning Man 2018

    September 14, 2018

    burning-man

    What is Burning Man?

It was magical and trying. It was interesting being around so many privileged people. I liked that I didn’t have to worry about people as much as I do when I walk the Oakland and San Francisco Streets. Everyone there has a home, has a place to seek help for free (without paying extra).

It was interesting learning how to accept gifts, give gifts, and tolerate the weird bartering that happens. It borders coercion but new cultures are kind of like that because you want to be polite as a person who hasn’t adjusted. Maybe the awkward exchange is the gift in total?

I want to go back. I miss it. I think that about all vacations and artistic productions where multiple people are involved. The temporary reality that we create, I become too comfortable and then the decompression.

I definitely want to bring that jenesequoi to more of my daily life. Sometimes, I get to wrapped up in pricing art, that I forget what gifting is: the most magical thing I’ve experienced.

I also want to say that I retract what I said. It’s not a festival. I think that their intention of it being a community and not a festival should be honored, though it meets my definitions of that word– there’s something else there that they are elevating. I’m not sure what it is.

  • The New Lullaby Shop (2)

    August 23, 2018

I’ve had this idea for a while now. But it’s really got legs because now I got a uke and a dedicated instagram channellullabyshop for quick lullaby magic.

I am putting it out there that I’ll do one for you for $5. It’s a quick thing where I improvise and play the chords I know. Minute long songs are a great way to decompress.

Are snapchat videos art? Anyways, I’ve been working with a character who is a kid and it’s really adorable and addictive. Making the videos makes me feel good and cared for.

  • Eggtooth Photobooth 2

    August 16, 2018

    eggtooth-strip

I had another successful photobooth at the eggtooth. (See previous blog post) It’s fun and I would like to do it at more gatherings, but I’m not that proactive about securing the gigs.

I used my new canon, on the lowest resolution setting. And it was easy and fun.

    me

For those of you who know who has been inspiring me, then you also know that they inspired me to buy a uke.

I got this one off of craigslist for $40 and it’s a miracle. I love singing and playing. My improv classes at Comedy Sportz Seattle are paying off in joy!

I also like writing down songs too. I’m working on a new project called The New Lullaby Shop, where people can send me money and I’ll write them a lullaby personally. So far only one person has done this but it turned out really well. I’ll be posting them to my new dedicated instagram: thenewlullabyshop

I’m excited about going to open mics and playing house shows. We will see if peeps really dig it.

  • Jam with Dooley and Real

    July 14, 2018

Michael Dooley who has performed at two events that I’ve helped produced was very generous and hosted a jam with me and Sean Real.

I haven’t had a lot of free improvisation jam sessions. This one was so lovely, I already miss it. There’s a lot of sweet comradery that comes with improv. We were very accepting. We listened and flowed with each other for over an hour. Me on my Bb clarinet, Dooley on his violin, and Sean on their Banjo (with an electronic bow at times!).

It was lovely:: sometimes it felt like an epic movie soundtrack and other times it felt like a porch hangout with one of those jug bands. I would totally do this again and recommend it for all musicians that like to improvise.

I have a nice clarinet– I started playing the clarinet in 6th grade. It feels like a part of me, my past, an extension of my body. It was so cool to feel like there was a reason carry it with me, just waiting for its moments. I wish I was in a band. I wanna go on tour. Sigh. I want so many things in so many directions.

  • Grillhaus Photographer

    July 14, 2018

A friend of mine saw my kickstarter where I’m trying to raise money for a camera that has a mic-in option to make better ASMR videos. And he sent me his CANON DSLR! It is so amazing having such a nice (so many pixels) camera.

I went to the latest Klanghaus event, Grillhaus, and sharpened my photo chops on some candid event snapshot type stuff and it turned out well. Felt good having something to do at a party other than telling puns. Lol. Here’s just a taste of what I got.
