Meranda’s birthday present. I think everyone should have some stylized dahlias in their dwellings.

Happy Birthday to you, my sister. All I have to give to others are my thoughts and feelings. Our family dinner isn’t going to be for a week from what I’ve heard, so I thought better say “happy birthday” more early than late, than shuffled in the middle with the throng of well-wishers. I wish you the best this year and all others in the future. Feelings of home, childhood and our shared lives in the middle of the Pacific. Love, Kati.

  • Map

    July 29, 2010

I’m still reeling from Inception. The movie echoes themes I’ve been exploring in books and at night, dreams, identity and reality and creating a world. Rippling from the strange deja vu, I keep singing to myself Jason Webley lyrics, “I’m not your lover. I’m just a map you use to find her.”

Here’s what the inside of my mind might look like presently:

If I had more technical skill/patience, the “birdhearts” would have perfect tiny circular labyrinth-inserts.

As a product of my Art Nouveau readings and a lovely canoe trip through the arboretum…

    Much better in person.

  • Yoks commission

    July 11, 2010

Have Yoks running on a rainbow, he said. 4×6, he said.

Thanks Dan. This is for you.

  • Goats and Sunday Sketches

    July 7, 2010

The goat portraits are of the first commission from my father. Hopefully not the last. A gift for my Dad’s lovely girlfriend Denise’s birthday. He said that they both cherished the paintings and will keep them forever. I love that.

  • Sunday Sketch

    June 27, 2010

full frontal portraits are hard. I’m not technically savvy enough for the symmetry of the human face.

  • Uwajimaya collage

    June 18, 2010

The perimeters of the design the bag contest for Uwajimaya were a little bigger than I remember, so the panels didn’t meet the requirements. I photocopied the paintings and made a collage using modge podge paste for the first time. I am glad that I misunderstood the assignment as this seems up a notch on the interesting scale.
