I watched Frida, the movie and it inspired me. I always loved her work and I enjoy the autobiographical nature it takes on. In this painting, I thought I’d go back to my roots. It’s funny seeing myself in Hawaiian garb because I don’t identify with it so much as I used to. It’s like an alternate reality. The one if I stayed in Hawaii to my adulthood.

I’m going to put them here. The green smells like mint and the red smells like cherry. At least when I use them. I doubt they retain much after a while.

Though thinking of people that like cephalopods, this painting is a great holiday gift for any member of the family! Even ones that you don’t get along with very well.

  • Death by Coyote

    November 21, 2009

Sweet and strange, A. has such odd ideas of beauty. I happen to agree with them. Here’s a fine moment in time. The hot air balloon is the logo of a small place called Woodinville, though in this painting the landscape hardly fits. Death by Coyote is romantic and wild, maybe no better way to die. I love the colors in this.

Made this cute little guy with a Kierkegaard quote. Return to the nautical nonsense. Thinking about Cthulu art, but not willing to go the distance. For AD.

  • Self Portrait

    November 10, 2009

Dan’s exgirlfriend Gemma has recently claimed some fame with her self portraits and here I thought I would get a slice of that pie. I started into this piece thinking I’d make my first “big-eye” piece and it turned out more haunting than cute.

  • Violin

    November 10, 2009

This would be a gift for Paula, Steve’s mom, if I thought it was really inspired. I like the background and the colors and layers, but flowers with eyes? That’s like high school stuff. I think I could come up with something more sophisticated. Some days, art is just pretty and that’s not good enough. Maybe more layers?
