Welcome to the Garamond Morning. I couldn’t be more inspired than by these words.

    1) Gramham Greene quote from The Heart of the Matter

    2) This is a title from Flannery O’Connor. Great use of words here.

    3) Howard Nemerov Poem “Because you asked about the Difference between Poetry and Prose” First line.

    4) Part of the modeling set, I did with Nicole. Her neck here is a little distorted, so that inspired the dream quote pairing. It is by Hastow Ellis (or something like it). I really like the saying because of the concept that we are all in someone else’s dream.

  • Feeling Into

    July 9, 2009

I have been feeling a bit down lately. All of my new friendships are withering away. It has been difficult to be inspired by other people. And I don’t know what I am doing with my life. I have been looking inward for hope and motivation. Yesterday, a withering friend sent me a link to a modeling thing that we did together that has been finally edited.  The word came from my journal of 2006. It’s a beautiful word and I was taking really interesting classes about moral philosophy and politics and I wrote down the cool things my professors had to say. I was inspired by Stella Im Hultberg. I found her stuff from boingboing.net and I really like her aesthetic. Femininity and nature have been concepts I’ve been tapping into for a long time. Thanks to another friend for the canvas. Moving away means free art supplies when it is an artist friend.

  • Lighthouse

    July 4, 2009

Since my family visited and we had our amazing travels together, I’ve wanted paintings to remind me. Here’s a lighthouse in the San Juan Islands.

  • Nate’s Tin

    nate

I felt really bad when I forgot about my coworker Nate when dividing the tips last thursday. I decorated a new tip jar for him. I labeled it with definitions of words that contain his name. Word definitions include magnate, dominate, enate and lunate. The two false definitions are: “nate-v. to be the best ever” and “nate-n. a person who makes great lattes.” I hope he likes it.

  • Lily

    June 24, 2009

    liliesofthevalley

I like lilies. My new friend Miranda was telling me about her tattoo and a particular part of it symbolizing lilies of the valley, the flower of May. I didn’t know that. I did this painting for her and for my new appreciation of these adorable bell-esque flowers. I got the words from one of my journals I had a few years back. I wish I had a paper journal now. I don’t know when I’d write in it, since I am not in school anymore.

    earth
I really like quotes, little snippets of great language. After the dogwood french proverb, I thought I would try a little more. I am not too sure about the font. But, I like the integration, language and visual arts together. Quote by Elizabeth browning, I think.

  • New inspirations

    slackline

I’m meeting new people and a strange mix of inspiration is coming into my life right now. Carolyn is such a special force, but I don’t know where that’s going. It’s the spiral staircase that’s in her apartment she currently is living that reminds me of her. Her paintings with alien interweaving tentacles are beautiful. Adam and Miranda introduced me to slacklining. It is so bizarre and interesting. When I was at their house last Saturday, I noticed a beautiful installation (done by Adam) of cable and photographs in their living room. I like that idea of a dark room acoutrement in day light. It is a great way to hang photographs. Paradise Falls (from the Pixar movie UP)– inspiring. Lately, I’ve been wanting to hike and go on adventures, for some reason. Perhaps influenced by my family coming to visit.

  • The End is Near

    June 24, 2009

    back

The Nicole Series has had its last breath. This hideous one shant be included. I painted over it immediately after photographing it. What is right with this? The backside of the torso doesn’t have the same femininity as the front side. None of the open, nurturity(?) and the flowerhead doesn’t make any sense. I was triying to do a butterfly wing edge, but it looks more the torso was dropped from a high height and then splattered. I like the red in it.
