Today, I am a little blue. I am experimenting a little more with the lying down figures. I realize that I am not used to working with these dimensions. The painting would look better with a little more room under the figure. Oh well. This painting might need something else to make it really work for me.trees

  • Frame Job

    May 26, 2009

    hearttree

At aforementioned Value Village trip, I admired this frame so much. I went out that afternoon and purchased a canvas mounted on sturdy cardboad to fit in it. It does fit, but I don’t know how to hang these things…

    oval

I have to thank my new friend, Kennedy, for this one. Earlier that morning, he reminded me of the Value Village sale for Memorial Day. Lo and behold, beautiful and abandoned pieces of wood came home with me. Dan helped, too. When I asked him what his favorite painting was, he mentioned that the brightest pink one from the Gallery was his favorite. I didn’t realize that there were so many muted paintings in the series.

  • Oh Deer

    May 25, 2009

    dear

I liked the rabbit, why not a little deer. I like the defenselessness of woodland creatures in a savanna landscape. Dan says that it’s too much or too little going on here. I regret snapping at him for saying that because it’s right and helpful to know these things. Tomorrow, I’ll add another boob tree. Perhaps the sky is a bit too much.

This is why I don’t draw faces or clothes very often… or because I don’t draw clothes or faces very often, this is what happens.

  • Rabbit

    May 24, 2009

    rabbit

I was waiting for some new inspiration to come to me. I called my friend in Michigan and he said that he got a girlfriend. I was so glad for his lonely butt that I “facebooked” the girl to envision his happiness and her profile picture was of her (presumably) in a rabbit suit. I thought how cool, a rabbit. And so, here she is dead between two boob trees. Surrealism is fun like that.

  • Torso Forest

    May 23, 2009

The Nicole Series continues. It just occurred to me that a stranger to me might think I have some boob thing going on. It’s not that I am a pervert, or try to be edgy, I just like the natural appeal and human quality breasts bring to a picture. I have been really enjoying the evolution of this series. I remember doing this background at the same time as the torso flower, but I hadn’t envisioned the forest like this until today. It is beautiful. I sigh in relief that this background has a lovely foreground. I am planning on adding some grasses and continuing down this line of inquiry. I am just so happy.detailoftorsoforest

  • Coffee Octopus

    May 23, 2009

    coffepus

I work in a coffeshop and I like doing paintings that are personal to me. I plan on a coffee/cafe series, but I don’t know how far I can take something like that. I really enjoy the sillyness of octopi, I mean how many legs do you need? and so, here it is on my “pollack” background. It feels right. Messy and I like it. I was going to do a squid inking into a coffee cup, but I just couldn’t find the right reference photo.
