I think today was one of my coworker’s birthday. I don’t know him, but if I did, I would give him this (that I made today while thinking of the alternative universe where we did know each other):

    tree and flower

This one was reborn from the “ashes” of another painting. The result of painting without an idea of the final outcome is often a gem in the rough. Here it is. Refined in my opinion. I have been enjoying the nicole series for what it has evolved from a surreal kneeling dogwood to this and others in this level of style for a lack of better critic vocabulary. I liked the grass from the other painting in the series with grass, so I thought I would add it here. It’s a lovely addition. Definitely softens what else is high contrast.

  • Creativity

    May 18, 2009

birdandflowerThere is no more ugly swan painting in the entry way of my apartment. It has been recycled into the cycle of creativity. I didn’t know what this painting was going to do. I thought it would eventually have a tree in the background like the others, but the color just splintered outward. It’s nice. A bit simple, but elegant. My art teacher in high school said that my anatomy was not sound and I have a feeling it might never be. That’s what happens when you don’t sketch first. And you don’t use live models. Maybe one day I will. Hint hint.

  • Hearts

    May 15, 2009

Fragile and beautiful situations of the heart. It’s kind of cliche, bordering on elegantly simple and cliche. I like this piece because it  incorporates the petals and the wings with the delicate torso shape and the blood that ties it togehter into the center of the painting, but it is not without a sense of gravity, where the shapes drip towards the bottom.heart

  • Broken Hearts Get Bottled Up

    May 14, 2009

heartsThe Counter-list consists of this. There is a dual nature in everyone. Sometimes it’s open for the world to see. Sometimes there’s just a little glimmer of sadness in the eyes. I made this today to show a certain sadness for someone lost.

  • Hi*Fructose

Great Collection of Contemporary Artists. Can’t ignore the amount of hybrid creatures of squid, woodland creature and human. Everybody has or will get a vinyl doll made of their work. Notes:

liked the quote “It’s not that I don’t like current events… it just seems like there’s been a lot lately.” So true in today’s info overload. The statement is eloquent and I’ll be using it to justify my lack of interest in news.

    “rainy day fun” = mischief

    Consumer ephemera= styrofoam

Jenny Bird= hooves, different colored eyes and streiped starry skies… lovely.

    Borrow books by David Pescovitz.

Twins/mulitples, great literary device, great art device.

  • Pollack

    May 13, 2009

Watched Pollack the movie last night. The one with Ed Harris. I adored the shots of Harris painting. It’s really organic. The way the movie presented Jackson is the way I see myself sometimes in terms of technique. There is no sketching or underpaintings, he just has at canvas. I am documenting the stages of the paintings I have been inspired to do by this movie. It’s always the first part of a series that’s the least contrived.

  • The Science of Sleep

    May 11, 2009

I really enjoyed this movie Directed and Written by Michel Gondry. This movie means a lot to me because a very special friend and I were going to see it, but then he dumped me instead. I like the innocence of the crafts and thought I would paint them on some foam board and let them make me happy. 02/08
