  • After Effects, the Winter Quarter Project

    March 18, 2013
    Animation from Katarina Countiss

Here’s my final presentation for this quarter’s special topics project. Initially my goal was to make a music video and a portfolio video that I would use for self-promotion. The music video ran on an extra couple of weeks, so instead of trying to hurry the portfolio video, I’ve decided to keep that for next quarter. It was interesting coming up with a music video concept. I originally thought I would have different bags with different faces, but instead I decided to leave it blank and add them in post. When I was doing that, I thought, I mind as well animate them to mouth the music. I think there’s something really charming about animation. Making something have life isn’t easy.

  • Relic Week Six

    March 16, 2013

Screen Shot 2013-03-16 at 9.10.35 AMNav is not resizing well. I’m spending too much time on this custom nav, but I have my design principles to consider. I have five days to create a homepage. I think I can do it. The other day, I married this AlbinoMouse theme to 1140 grid with mixed results. I took the nav elements and gave them their own classes of onecols, but don’t ask me what happens when the page resizes to mobile. There’s extra scroll space. There’s something I’m missing.

After some thought, I felt like I must continue. Made absolute position for the nav elements.

I had some successes in styling the excerpts on the homepage. Looking at different plugins to generate thumbnails.

Update: This could potentially be bad. I don’t know what’s wrong. I sent a message to my hosting company, but it could have been something I did. I shouldn’t have tried to mess with the functions.php… After talking to “Charlie,” I’ve confirmed that a “>” in my functions code lead to this breakdown and further more I can’t seem to correct the file via FTP. I think I have to start over. I think I can do it in five days. Though I don’t think it will be easy. Relik-Sculpture-Magazine | Just another WordPress site.

My experiments in implementing a slideshow and excerpts. (and apparently saving screenshots)

Update 3-18-13: I’m getting there. Fixing the nav text. Adding a home button on the footer for easy surfing of the site.

Screen Shot 2013-03-18 at 5.37.09 PMThing to do: add excerpts and thumbnails… I feel so close. I haven’t found the right incantation to summon them.

    4tomorrow

I wanted to create a haunted image relating  . I made the bed in illustrator and drew the alligators with pen and ink and then assembled it all in Photoshop.

  • Fancy Candles, a Video

I made this video using a Magic Candle from Grand Illusions Ltd. and an illustrator file of my favorite character, Mr. Yoks. I used music from Free Music Archive. Trying to integrate animation and live action is something that I am interested in exploring. The idea of imagination leaking into the “real world” will always keep my attention. It’s a lot easier animating when you have this anchor of footage shot as your canvas. I’m not sure if I am going to do a second episode of this style. I think it depends on the encouragement I get and my workload over spring break.
Housemate critique: Needs a mouth and some moving hair. Otherwise it just looks like a lame Popsicle stick puppet.
