    Happy Place

I wrote this after a bad morning trying to submit old paper work for food stamps in person. My ticket number was A003. My paystubs were a month too old and I have terrible luck with remembering passwords, so it’s not an easy feat to get them. UGh. Then my phone decided to not work. I wrote a poem about my hell-logicked life, then I wrote this poem and it made it all feel not so bad. The poem ends with wherever the audience and performer are.

    Partial Eclipse

For all the glory of this cosmological phenom, I was at work in cloudy San Francisco, where we had an informal viewing party. I lost my phone so I had nothing else to do but glance at it and enjoy the company of my fellow coworkers. Same day, I performed this piece at the Octopus. I’ve never been so topical in my performances. One time performance!

    Sound Poem

I was reading this beautiful book, Performance Art and was inspired by Free Music (a solo project that played at my house). I brought my toy glockenspiel.

    Dance Therapy

I’ve workshopped this piece before for a 10-minute slot. Trying to do it in five was a fun challenge. The one about the Armory was really funny. When I asked that audience member and she said that the best part of her week was two parties at the SF Armory, I was inspired, lol. Read this post for more about that.

  • My Art Life Lately

SKAST (some kind of art show thing) 2

    skast

I recently was part of a pop-up where I sold some stickers. I had some zines and a few paintings on display as well. I enjoyed meeting the fellow artists in the show and seeing their work. The opening reception had music and hot dogs. The show was hosted by one of my housemates. I haven’t been in a visual art show in over a year. It was nice to have it in my home.

Sometimes peeps at art shows want to buy something and pick it up at the end of the night so I bought old folders at The East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse and labelled them with the name of the purchaser and put them aside. I enjoy using Pro Black Masking Tape and Presto! Jumbo Correction Pen for signage and labeling. I recommend.

    stickers

The stickers, I got the substrate (Substrate | Definition) from my work– I work at a chocolate factory. There’s a glitch in the label printing process where there’s extra label paper all the time. I enjoy the label paper having a new life as a sweet sticker. They are easier to draw on than traditional stickers but they do accumulate dirt more like paper and less like glossy stickers.

  • Open Mics at the Octopus Literary Salon

    July 26, 2017

My first time at an open mic in a couple of years and that time was my first time. I’m fairly inexperienced, but I like performing. The above video (live audio recording) of the time I brought my clarinet and plugged in my phone to play a track Noah from Fraydee Cat made for me and then some storytelling. I thought a lot about what I would talk about. I really wanted to talk about how since last May, I’ve been taking messages from the dead more seriously.

The open mic a week from this time I read three poems. I like the idea of challenging myself to do different genres of performance.

Working on my first band shirt. yay, I love making shirts. The stencil was created by lasercutting a vectorized image of one of my Presto pen drawings. I was glad to have gotten some foam sheets to test with so it’s not a bunch of reject shirts. I think the white detracts from the design somehow. That surprised me. I used stencil brushes and acrylic paint for these. I’m wondering what using the spray paint I got will be like.

Black paper and correction pen (Presto! Jumbo Correction Pen Fine Point Metal Tip)

I like the process of this exploration. The dots seem to shimmer. Fun working on different experiments– density, color, radiality, background.

  • Skateboarding graphic

    July 26, 2017

    IMG_8105

My new board. True story: I’ve never really stood up on a skateboard. It’s been really fun and a little scary trying out a new hobby. Peeps keep asking me if I had a big fall like it’s a given. Also my first time spraypainting an object (I guess, really? as far as I can remember). The paint comes out in a spray so it’s difficult to evenly coat it. and it comes out fast. An unforgiving medium. It looks way cool though. It’s out of the can look without any skill in application has an effect of what it is, just boom, there it is. it was so fast, the process of start to finish being less than a couple of minutes, but so much fun. I would love to work on more decks.

I had some time off from work after my father died. I wanted to catch up on some projects I’ve been thinking about doing but had less focus to get them out there and out of my to-do list. This is a zine reflecting on some rough times I had with my mental health and the art that came from it.

A character evolved from cosmic bunny of last year. This one has plant life growing out of it and text! I made zines.
